Postmodernist Hindi literature searches the ‘uttar adhunik’ for authentic language and contemporary themes. Questioning the excessive ornamentation of the romantic Chhayavaadi movement, it seeks to return to the here and now of spoken language, sidestepping colonial Western influences while searching for its own voice.
